Good but not necessary... depends on your style... |
I've been in the fitness industry for over a decade, and of all the programs out there, I keep coming back to Body for Life as one of the most sound and accessible programs. It is based on solid principles -- nothing "far out" or particularly controversial. Just solid science nicely packaged in a manageable amount of exercise and a sustainable nutrition program.
For my personal taste, the "rah rah" motivational parts of the original book were a bit over the top. I sort of extracted the program elements from the book and follow those, and skipped over the rah rah. If that's how you were too, you're not going to really like the journal. You're better off downloading the plain workout and diet tracking sheets from the website and using those (or making your own version).
If, however, you loved the emotional side of the book and you're a big fan of day-to-day inspirational stories and such to keep you on track, you'll love it.
So 4 stars for being what it sets out to be (even if that strikes me as corny...)

Key to Keeping Me Focused & On Program! |
| I'm in week 3 of the program and making some really positive changes (down 5 pounds and feeling stronger and more healthy!). One of the tools that has really helped me is the "BFL Success Journal" that I bought online before I started the program. I have to tell you, it's really made an incredible difference for me because it keeps me focused on my goals and dreams EVERY DAY. It takes time and discipline to fill the thing out on a daily basis, but the accountability and inspiration have really been key for me. You know the old saying, "if you fail to plain, you plan to fail"? This tool has really helped me plan and track my progress. I'm the kind of person who HATES doing this kind of stuff (I was on Weight Watchers before BFL and keeping track of points, while so critical to that program, was really a struggle for me!), and yet this format has "clicked" with me. Highly recommended! |

| This journal is so worth it. Yes, it is a bit bulky, and I too wish there were other editions to show more success stories. But Bill's plan works. It is like nothing I have ever done before. Get this along with the book for more information on what foods you need to be eating and exercises. The cook book is good too, but sometimes calls for ingredients that I don't normally have, but it is good to get you out of a "rut" of eating the same kinds of foods all the time. Many people complained about all of the writing, I don't use all of that in there, but it is there if you choose to. That is the key---it is what you choose to use. It is worth it's weight in gold for the success stories and the room to record workouts and food that you ate. His words of inspiration everyday were helpful to help keep me motivated and on track. This is my third round and it is not a diet, it is a life changing plan. It soon becomes a way of life, not just something you do for 12 weeks. Bill is awesome! |
