Strengths are useful; and one description is missing! |
This book is proving to be a good tool, especially to managers who have recently changed organizations. I'm using it to better understand and manage my staff...and my staff can better manage me! It is a refreshing approach to look at strengths, when most of our training and reinforcement is to fix our weaknesses.
Unfortunately(?), several members of my staff are strong in "Consistency," which is not described in the book. If anyone reading this review has located an errata section (somewhere) that includes this text, 'would like to see it! |

Very Disappointing |
| Based on other reviews I got this book expecting to be informed. What I got was a long poorly disguised sales pitch for their selection test. As a former user of the Gallup test, I should have known better. The basic premise is not new. The things they tout as traits are really just characteristics. I can't believe I paid for a sales pitch. |

Learn about strengths and talents |
This book is a fascinating journey of discovery into your five greatest strengths. You will need an internet connection to go online to complete the assessment which took me 30 minutes. You will learn about the benefits of each strength and how to manage people who have these strengths.
The author believes that managers should focus on making the most of employee strengths rather than fixing their weaknesses. From an optimal thinking perspective, I have reservations about this philosophy because sometimes individual weaknesses can be catastrophic to an organization.
I believe this book should be used in the hiring process by management in conjunction with the Optimal Thinking Audit (to determine the employee's dominant level of thinking). I also strongly recommend Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self to learn how to make the most of yourself, your interactions with others and the most of any situation.
