A Beginner's Guide to Short-Term Trading: How to Maximize Profits in 3 Days to 3 Weeks

Average rating: Stars
Stars Not very practical for the beginner day trader
The book is fine as a general reference book, but frankly its outdated and distracting.

Day trading is a very competitive field and in order to succeed you need to FOCUS on a set of simple strategies that you can implement without hesitation.

This game is all about buying and selling according to your set ups. So the clearer your set ups are, the faster you can make a profitable decision. Hopefully some sites on the web do offer more relevant and updated day trading information.

One of those sites that can show you how to trade using a practical strategy is Practical Day Trading ( PracticalDayTrading.com )

They focus mainly on short term momentum stock trading strategies, that in my opinion are easier to implement than many other technical systems outhere.

Day trading doesn't have to be complicated as many people perceive. But you do need to follow a well organized set of rules and tactics, that once you master them, you can aspire to replicate profitable trades with consistency.

A Beginner's Guide to Short-Term Trading: How to Maximize Profits in 3 Days to 3 Weeks - Toni Turner
Stars Good for beginners
As a beginning short term trader I've encountered a bewildering complexity of oscillators and indicators and all sorts of attendant advice and information. This book nicely distills that information into strategies, reiterates certain key themes, and makes concrete recommendations -- about when to buy & sell and when not to. I have found it to be very helpful.

As a beginner, it doesn't hurt to be reminded of tested approaches over and over. And where the more technical authors like John Murphy barely pay lip service to the psychological underpinnings of technical analysis, Turner makes it front and center. I appreciated this; it helps me to really understand my behavior and the behavior of others as I look at a chart.

Like another reviewer on this page, I too could have done without the cosmic meanderings at the end of each chapter. But basically I've found the book very useful, and I'll keep using it until I'm ready to move on to the next level.

Stars A little bit of info, and a lot of fluff
This book could really be about 50 pages long instead of 280. It covers from ground zero of what a stock market is, to some fundamentals of technical analysis. Like some other reviewers, I think it is excessively dumbed-down and sometimes patronizing, and annoying in the amount of time it takes to say something simple. Throughout, it is filled with commentary on the psychology of investing, and new-age motivational feel-good-isms. As an example, she has a quote at the end of each chapter; one chapter ends with a quote from Ramtha, a spiritual being who is channeled by the leader of a new-age cult in southern Washington State (take a look at http://skepdic.com/channel.html if you haven't heard of it); another ends with a quote from a book on magic. Not exactly the person whose ideas I am going to trust with the money that I invest. The elements of actual truth and knowledge that are imparted in the discussion of technical analysis and other items seem to be just barely enough to make the author seem to know what she's talking about. I am not surprised that she seems to have a full-time business selling books and lectures rather than trading...
